This text is from an email I received from Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E. of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Haven.
"We are particularly proud of "Wendi" who was hand-reared from the day the she was born, and now leads a Splinter Group of Ex Orphans who periodically peel off from Yatta`s main herd and keeps in close touch with the Youngsters who remain milk and Keeper Dependent, and who return to the Night Stockades each evening. It has been very humbling for us to be able to witness the caring, compassion, and intelligence of these wonderful animals by knowing them so intimately and having the privilege of watching them grow into adulthood. Some of our Nursery reared orphans are now having their own wild-born calves, and bringing them back to proudly show their Keepers who remain based at the Rehabilitation Centres in Tsavo East National Park, steering another ex Nursery bunch into their teenage years. When that happens, it truly is the Cherry on the Cake, and we are always very mindful of the fact that none of it would have been possible without the support of many caring people such as yourself, all over the world."
