- Portraits After many, many hours at her easel in front of live models her skill at painting them is reaching her vision of just how beautiful the human is.
- Waterfowl Raised in the flyway of California, daughter of an avid hunter, Val's heart and history is in the water, cat tails, and birds of the world and flyways.
- Landscapes Mostly done on location, "Plein Air" the color, mood, time of day & year and temperature are all very clear in her paintings of the west
